Nine roles for early childhood professionals are identified below. Rank these roles according to your perceptions at this time. Create a PowerPoint with each role having its own slide. Discuss your thoughts about the roles and why you ranked them the way you did. There is no right or wrong rank order. These are your perceptions right now and may be different from others, and may change in the future.
Teacher as an instructional leader
Teacher of state standards (either Common Core standards for public school or Office of Early Learning standards for birth-age 4)
Teachers with intention
Teacher who maximizes instructional time
Teacher of performance-based accountability for learning
Teacher of literacy and reading
Teacher who integrates technology into teaching and learning
Teacher of twenty-first century skills
Teacher in the inclusive classroom
Number each slide as you rank the roles. A lot of people forget to explain the why of their choices. Numbers 1 & 2, as well as 8 & 9 are usually easy to explain. It gets difficult explaining why you numbered those in the middle.
