I propose to create a business where Licenced Practical Nurses to assist with continuity of care. With this service I want to establish an outpatient office that provides services to recently discharged patients that includes, more detailed education on diagnosis and prescribed medications that once discharged may need a little bit more help to understand. “At least 20 percent of all patients who are admitted to a U.S. hospital make a repeat visit within 30 days of discharge” (Krames Patient Education, 2019). Extensive detailed education is important to help reduce readmissions. Next, I want to be able to assist navigating the finance portion on the hospital stay. Obtaining the proper insurance, for finding the finances to pay for hospital stay. Last, the service will include locating resources that will help patients find the tools that can assist with achieving a healthier lifestyle. This will include finding resources that will help with transportation to and from appointments, finding appropriate health plex facilities and more.
Some strengths that will prevail with this service are patients will have a better sense of guidance after discharge. Readmission is an issue with many hospitals. The services will aid in decreasing the readmission numbers. “The failure to adhere to appropriate treatment plans is one the most common reasons for hospital readmission rate” (Samuel, 2022). Patient mobility equipment is assistive devices that aid in the movement of patients having problems walking, such as the use of lifts, sling lifts, and stand aids. This mobility equipment helps solve the immobility problem of patients as they assist in lifting, transferring, and moving patients. Moreover, the equipment allows doctors to answer patient questions without requiring constant interference from nurses (Schoenfisch et al., 2019). Moreover, the tools provide greater convenience, save time and decrease the effort needed to walk.
However, there exist some weaknesses in this mobility equipment. One of the disadvantages is that it is costly to install and maintain (Moyimane, Matlala & Kekana, 2017). The patients can get agitated and struggle, and the sling can break, or the machine stops working, resulting in patient or caregiver injury. Nevertheless, using these tools requires high physical demands due to a large amount of weight involved. The possible mobility equipment opportunities will provide suppliers’ marketing (Kucera et al., 2018). Additionally, the mobility tool will allow nurses to use the equipment, enhancing effective care for the patients.
The threat of using mobility equipment is that the manual lifting of patients can cause an increased risk of pain and injury to caregivers in cases where patients are heavy (Kucera et al., 2018). Patients may even fall from their tools, causing further injuries.
The weaknesses of the mobility equipment are associated with the costs because if the organization does not have enough funding for the products, the acquisition of the tools becomes difficult. However, the costs are not too high, impacting the budget. Moreover, the revenues that will be generated from the use of equipment are an added advantage to the organization because even though the fourth and fifth years’ revenue would have gone down as compared to the first two years, the profit generated still is enough.
