Select one film scene (2-6 minutes) that is representative of an issue, question, or phenomenon related to our
course focus. Analyze that film scene to arrive at an insightful claim about the argument made by the filmic elements of the scene.
Prepare to analyze the film scene by reviewing the notes you took on the film and watching the scene at least twice. Very briefly summarize your scene, using “Noice and Focus” (WA 17-21) to select details that will prepare the audience for your analysis.
•For your analysis, choose representative, interesting, and complex filmic evidence from your scene. Apply 10 on 1 (WA 105-109, 112-116) to the evidence you choose so that you can say more about less.
•Discuss the significance of the pieces of evidence you have chosen from the scene. Use Tools for Visual Analysis and The Method on the film scene to make observations about the concrete details you have chosen. In your analysis, be sure to explain the relationship between the formal elements of the scene and the interpretation you are advancing. This analysis will be the basis for your interpretive conclusions.
