Requirements: Memo length of 2-3 pages, single-spaced. See below for suggestions on formatting.
Note that extensive outside research is expected in order to adequately respond to the question prompt.
Question Prompt:
For this analytical essay, you should explore the dynamics between the United States, Russia, and China. You may elect to pursue simple bilateral relations (i.e. relationship between only two countries listed) or multilateral relations (i.e. how all three states interact with one another).
Your primary task is to apply theories of international relations and war to your assessment. For example, how would constructivism explain the relationship between the United States and Russia? What evidence of reciprocity exists between the United States and China? Does balance of power provide any insight as to the potential for conflict between Russia and China?
When applying theories of interstate relations and war to evaluate the relationships you must provide specific examples drawn from contemporary events. Thus, you will need to conduct extensive outside research and cite references to news articles that support your argument!

Formatting:
In general, the memo should be single spaced, using Times New Roman 12 point font.
As noted below, footnote citations should be 10 point font.
Citation Guidelines:
Any time you are using direct quotes or paraphrasing ideas that are not your own, you should offer a citation to signal the source to your reader.
Direct quotes should always be marked by quotation marks.
Citations should adopt the Chicago Manual of Style format: https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html Links to an external site.
Subsequent citations of the same material should be truncated.
If citing lectures, use the following format: Jeffrey Treistman, National Security Policy & Strategy, “Lecture Title.”
Footnotes go at the end of sentences, not in the middle.
Punctuation goes inside of quotation marks while footnotes go outside. Example: “Citations are important.”
Avoid citing internet sources that are not linked through the UNH Library, its databases, or other reputable academic institutions (Dept of Defense, Freedom House, Smithsonian, New York Public Library, etc.). It is not appropriate to cite articles from Wikipedia.
JSTOR and other databases are not a source that can be cited — they are simply repositories that house academic articles akin to an online library. Instead, you should cite the actual article referenced in your memo.
For this assignment it will not be necessary to compile a bibliography or works cited section. This means, however, that you will need to be particularly diligent about providing complete citation information in your footnotes.
Please use footnotes citations in 10 point font and single spaced.
